Taika Waititi Isn’t Going to Bring Back Bro Thor in Love and Thunder

Depressed after failing to undo Thanos' decimation in Avengers: Endgame, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) decided to seclude himself in New Asgard, gaining a significant amount of weight.

As much as fans enjoyed seeing Bro Thor emulate The Dude in most of Endgame, there's been a whole lot of concern about Thor's heavy physique. Would the Asgardian God of Thunder remain as Bro Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder?

Taking to Instagram to speak with fans after an Instagram live watch of Thor: Ragnarok, Marvel director Taika Waititi decided to address these concerns (via CBR).

When asked by a fan whether Bro Thor would appear in Love and Thunder, Waititi gave what seemed to be a definite no.

"We haven't figured that out, but I feel like that's done," the director replied.

While Bro Thor does have his fans, we understand why Marvel would want the Asgardian God of Thunder to drop the pounds in Love and Thunder.

There was a bit of backlash when Endgame introduced Bro Thor. Some viewers felt like the film handled Thor's weight-gain poorly, fat-shaming the Asgardian God of Thunder. Instead of taking Thor's depression seriously, the film used the character's weight gain as a source of levity.

Waititi may do a better job of handling Bro Thor in Love and Thunder, however, it seems like the director is much more focused on other aspects of development in the next Thor movie. Of course, the filmmaker is going to be busy dealing with Jane Foster's (Natalie Portman) Mighty Thor, so Waititi might want the issue of Bro Thor out of the way.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set for release on Feb. 8, 2022.
