Taika Waititi Confirms X-Men Aliens in Thor: Love and Thunder

It looks like Marvel is slowly building links between the X-Men and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

According to a report by Screen Rant, Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi has confirmed the appearance of Starsharks in his new Marvel movie, Thor: Love and Thunder. To the uninitiated, Starsharks or Space Sharks are shark-like creatures living in space. Known to be present in the Pegaus System, the Starsharks are ruthless creatures that can reach up to hundreds of feet.

While the presence of Starsharks in Love and Thunder might not seem like much, this alien race first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #162 back in 1982. The Starsharks have been featured together with the X-Men at various times in the 1980s and they are known as the vessels of the X-Men villains The Brood. These villains capture, control, and then upgrade the Starsharks for their missions against Charles Xavier's mutant heroes.

Of course, it wouldn't be a entirely surprise to see the Starsharks in Love and Thunder. These creatures reappeared recently in non-X-Men comic book titles like Thor: God of Thunder and King Thor. It makes sense that Waititi would want to bring these terrifying aliens into the MCU by introducing them in his next Thor movie.

Right now, we can't really tell whether the Starsharks in Love and Thunder are going to play an essential role in the film or whether they're going to serve as odd additions to the movie. Will the appearance of the Starsharks introduce the Brood? Let's wait and see.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set for release on February 18, 2022.
