Lucasfilm's Star Wars film slate has encountered major setbacks over the last three years but the production company is more determined than ever to bring the beloved franchise back to the big screen.

So far, multiple film projects are currently in development, including Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's "New Jedi Order" film, Shawn Levy's mystery project, and Dave Filoni's MandoVerse film among others.

Another film in the works is Taika Waititi's standalone offering which was announced in late 2020. However, there have been conflicting reports surrounding the true status of the Thor: Love and Thunder director's Star Wars film. Now, Waititi is ready to put an end to all those speculations.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Taika confirmed that his untitled film is still happening despite some reports claiming it's been removed from Lucasfilm's upcoming Star Wars film slate.

The IG-11 voice actor said: "I’ve got a really good idea for it. It’s just with all films, it’s the middle part. You’re like, ‘What’s going to happen?’ And then you look at all of those [Star Wars] films that are so great, you’re like, ‘Well, I guess they can’t meet a smuggler with an alien sidekick."

Taika's comments also confirm Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy's previous remarks, saying that the MCU director is "slow" in terms of working around the project's script.

Kennedy told Empire Magazine: "Taika is working away. He's just, and he won't get mad at me for saying this, slow. We've got a couple of acts, we need a third."

As it stands, we still have no idea what kind of story Taika is working and while fans are understandably concerned, especially after Thor: Love and Thunder's negative reception, I still think Taika will be able to come up with something great.

Lest we forget that he was responsible for directing The Mandalorian Season 1's epic finale which was easily one of the show's best episodes.

Meanwhile, Daisy Ridley's "New Jedi Order" film is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2025.
