DC Studios has finally tapped a director who will helm the much-awaited Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie.

Earlier this year, House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock was cast to play the DCU's Girl of Steel after a major casting search. The hero is set to be introduced in another DCU project before she segues to her solo movie.

The project was first announced last year in which James Gunn described it as a "big science fiction epic film" and "a "beautiful, star-spanning tale." Ana Nogueira was tapped to pen the screenplay.

Deadline revealed that Cruella and I, Tonya director Craig Gillespie is in talks to helm Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow for DC Studios.

The project is currently targeting to start filming during Q4 of this year once Gunn is done shooting Superman.

DC Studios has been searching for a director for the project for the past few months since Alcock was cast for the role with Gillespie ultimately getting the job.

While Gillespie doesn't have experience directing a comic book movie, he has helmed various film and TV projects across genres with Disney's Cruella being the most high-profile work he has done so far.

He has also directed several projects with a female lead and his resume has proved that he could do a fresh take for the character that can make it unique and exciting in the crowded comic book genre.

It is also a sign that the development of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has been going well and it is now likely the second DCU movie that will be released given how far its progress is.
