Supergirl Movie Project Reportedly Set In The Seventies

Last week, the internet community went into a frenzy after rumors started coming out that Henry Cavill would be hanging up his Superman cape and leaving behind the DC Extended franchise. Though it now seems like Cavill won't be really giving up his role as the Man of Steel anytime soon, during the entire whirlwind of different reports last week, word came out that Warner Brothers was planning to develop a Supergirl movie.

Though most of the attention last week has been focused on Cavill's supposed departure from the DCEU, a report by The Playlist gives us a few details about what Warner Brothers has planned for its supposed Supergirl project. Though there isn't any confirmation just yet, word has it that the Supergirl movie is going to take place sometime in the 1970s and that the film would focus on a version of Kara Zor-El who traveled to Earth before her popular cousin did because her pod was never knocked off-course during the destruction of Krypton.

Giving the film a 70s setting would definitely be interesting. Not only would it help distinguish the film from the content on The CW's Supergirl television series, but it would also work along with the timeline of Man of Steel in the DCEU. After all, Kara is supposed to arrive much earlier than Kal-El, making Superman a child when Supergirl makes waves on earth. However, DC fans might want a different kind of film, seeing that Wonder Woman 1984 is also a period piece set in the 80s.

Of course, given that the report is based largely on rumors, we'll just have to wait and see what WB actually has planned for Supergirl.
