Suicide Squad New Image May Hint at What Should’ve Been for Joker & Harley

Suicide Squad has been among the more controversial and much-talked-about movie this season. But there are many reasons as to why it was—from the unexpected storyline to the misleading marketing thanks to the awesomely remixed trailer.

Following the mixed to negative reviews, news broke that The Joker's scenes were supposed to be more than the 10 minutes that surprised people in the movie.

While actor Jared Leto has already hinted that there are a lot of other Joker scenes that were shot, director David Ayer has already confirmed that there won't be a longer director's cut of Suicide Squad. Still, that hasn't stopped a new image from surfacing.

And from the looks of it, there may be a valid reason why Joker scenes weren't shown—at least valid in the point of view of the movie's rating.

Rolling Stone Brazil (via Batman-News) featured an image that may have been a key difference in the movie. This image, seen in the tweet below, shows Joker looking very, very mad at his Harley Quinn. According to the report, this scene was supposed to have happened during the Joker's grand rescue of his ladylove.

From what we can remember from the movie, it had played out more romantically. Joker swoops in riding his trusty helicopter with guns a-blazin' before taking Harley with him.

In the image, however, Joker's menacing expression, that pointed finger, and Harley's submissive, near tears expression looks thee very picture of verbal abuse. Considering how that is the real history of the Joker and Harley love affair, this wouldn't have been a surprising sight to see.

It also opens up a lot of questions when you put the pieces together. Joker has a lot of deleted scenes. Leto had previously claimed that the character's pitch was very different from what he had to work with.

There had been strange rumors that Suicide Squad was reshot to give it a spin that was more funny ha-ha than a brooding hu-hu. Not to mention the fact that the dynamics between Joker and Harley throughout the movie would give you a toothache—his diving into that vat to "save" her? Come on!

I'm more intrigued into previous rumors of the Suicide Squad sequel being more focused on these two characters. This isn't impossible since Joker does swoop in to the save the day again and break her out of prison. But considering what should be the learnings from Suicide Squad critics, are we now going to see a more twisted and cruel love instead of the puddin'-sweet relationship that we saw in Suicide Squad?

If it's the humor they're worried about, I don't think they should be, since that wasn't the selling point of Suicide Squad anyway. I'd rather see them hark back to the comics with Joker's insane "I'm not really smiling" smile and Harley's pathetic but also deranged love.
