Suicide Squad Director on the Birds of Prey Reveal

This week gave us our first look at next year's Birds of Prey, and Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn definitely took the spotlight. Seeing as the character made her debut in Suicide Squad, a lot of people have asked director David Ayer what he thought.

As it turns out, this was a "proud dad" moment for Ayer:

You could say that Robbie has definitely gotten more involved with Harley in the DCEU. Besides playing her in Birds, Robbie is also attached as a producer for the film. No doubt she was one of the highlights of Suicide Squad, and it's good that we'll actually get more of her. Now only if they could fix whatever happened with Jared Leto's Joker.

For now, it looks like Ayer is going to be working on the sequel for Netflix's Bright. The movie didn't do so well critically, but a lot of people loved the film enough to get a sequel greenlit. He was also working on a Gotham City Sirens movie, but it looks like that one has been shelved as Robbie works on this movie first. Hopefully, we get to see the likes of Catwoman and Poison Ivy on the big screen soon.

We don't know if Ayer will ever work for the DCEU again, but hopefully, this new direction that Walter Hamada is taking the franchise will consider him to helm a project. After news came out that the studio heavily interfered with Ayer's original cut, a lot of people are wondering what would have happened if he had his way.

Catch Birds of Prey in theaters Feb. 7, 2020.
