Matt Reeves Talks About His 'Noir' Approach to Batman

It's been years since Matt Reeves has been announced to take over The Batman, but the updates have been scarce for the movie. Now with production set to begin later this year, Reeves gives us a bit on his take for the solo movie of the Caped Crusader.

He tells The Hollywood Reporter:

"It's very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It's told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it's going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It's more Batman in his detective mode than we've seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He's supposed to be the world's greatest detective, and that's not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I'd love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it's going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation."

Though we've already gotten a lot of Bat-films, I think Reeves does have a point when it comes to the movie not really putting an emphasis on Batman's detective abilities. I guess it's hard to make a mystery thriller and enthrall most of the audience at the same time. It's a lot easier to wow kids with explosions and action scenes.

Rumor has it that the villains for this movie will be the Penguin and an unnamed rogue. Personally, I think the mystery character is going to be the main villain with the Penguin coming out as some kind of glorified cameo. With the mysteries needing to be solved, a lot of people are thinking that the Riddler will be the main bad, but it's possible that we could find someone completely obscure like Hush.

No release date has been set for Matt Reeves' The Batman.
