Stranger Things Star Was Told Netflix Show Wouldn't Last

It's no secret that Stranger Things is one of Netflix's biggest shows to date. However, there was a time when people were unsure about the series and were convinced that it would only be around for one season! Gaten Matarazzo has shared an awesome story of how things were when they started working on Season 1 and he revealed that the cast and crew were often told it wouldn't last very long!

Gaten Matarazzo has been part of the Stranger Things cast from the start so he knows about the show's humble beginnings. The young actor was recently a guest on the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast where he shared a cool story of seeing the pilot episode for the first time.

"We went into this on stage at Screen Gems in Georgia. There's this back room..it was an empty little space, an empty little room and they brought this rinky dink little tv out there with just a regular DVD and a DVD player that had a rough cut of the first episode of the show," Matarazzo said.

He continued by admitting it didn't look very good back then.

"A lot of the editing hadn't been finished at all, there were still like shots in which you could still see the green screen, it wasn't even edited out. They had music put together, a rough cut of the music. It was just a rough draft of what the show was going to look like but they put so much work into that," Matarazzo said, adding that it was a special gathering for everyone who worked on Stranger Things.

"All of us were in it, all the cast, the crew everybody, was there on that day. It was pretty small at the time and we just sat down and we watched it and I just still remember every single moment of it to this day, six years ago," Matarazzo admitted.

He concluded by confessing that people weren't particularly impressed with the show at that time. "We kept getting told 'Enjoy while it lasts, because it's probably not going to get a season two' and we just watched it and just knew we were like 'Okay we're in good hands we're safe, this is worthwhile,'" Matarazzo stated.

Things certainly have changed since then because Stranger Things is now on Season 4. Luckily, all those people were wrong about the series which has turned into a worldwide phenomenon.

The first part of Stranger Things Season 4 will air on Netflix on May 27, 2022 and will be followed by the second part on July 1, 2022.
