Aside from A Nightmare on Elm Street, Stranger Things Season 4 also referenced Star Wars, and it might continue until Stranger Things Season 5. In fact, the penultimate season had left three major storylines that might feature Return of the Jedi references in the final season.

The Duffer Brothers revealed that Empire Strikes Back heavily influenced Stranger Things Season 4. So, what Return of the Jedi references will fans see in Stranger Things Season 5?

Max’s Return in Stranger Things Season 5 à la Han Solo

Screen Rant listed three possible storylines in Stranger Things Season 5 that might reference Star Wars: Episode IV – Return of the Jedi.

The first one is Max’s (Sadie Sink) storyline. Many want to know the fate of Max after her near-death encounter with Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower).

Talking about her future in the final season, Matt Duffer said, “Yeah, she'd brain dead, but she's alive. Brain-dead and blind.”

“And all her bones are broken, but she's doing great,” Ross Duffer added.

Just like Han Solo (Harrison Ford) in The Empire Strikes Back, where he was frozen in carbonite, Max is mentally alive.

So, Luke (Mark Hamill) and Leia (Carrie Fisher) crafted a plan to rescue him in Return of the Jedi.

But compared to Han Solo’s situation, Max’s was more difficult. If her friends have to do a rescue mission, they must go to Upside Down to see if part of her has been stuck there after Vecna’s attack.

Eleven may Complete Her Training in Stranger Things Season 5 like Luke

Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) may need to complete her training to finally put Vecna down and close the doors of Upside Down in Hawkins.

Star Wars fans know that Luke defeated his father, Darth Vader, after completing his training with Master Yoda and becoming a Jedi Master.

With that said, Eleven may do the same, especially after Will (Noah Schnapp) says that Vecna is still alive.

However, it remains to be seen how Eleven will do that after Dr. Brenner’s (Matthew Modine) death.

Vecna may Try to Lure Eleven into Upside Down in Stranger Things Season 5

Darth Vader tried to lure Luke into the Dark Side in Return of the Jedi. So just like in the movie, Vecna may also try to turn Eleven into Upside Down to rule the world together.

In fact, Vecna told Eleven that “There was a time when I had hoped to have you by my side” in Stranger Things Season 4, so he might continuously do so in Stranger Things Season 5.

With the resentment Eleven, Number One and other test subjects had toward Dr. Brenner, the former might consider the proposal. It can’t be denied that there’s a dark side in Eleven that she’s constantly in conflict with, and Vecna may try to take advantage of it.

But surely, Eleven may always choose the Light Side in Stranger Things Season 5.
