In just a few more days, the long-awaited second volume of Stranger Things Season 4 will finally premiere on Netflix. The upcoming second volume will see the Hawkins gang as they go against the show's latest villain, Vecna, while Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) is trying to regain her power miles away at the Russian secret facility. It was already unveiled that Season 5 would be the finale of the Netflix hit. However, according to the Duffer Brothers, a spinoff is being developed that would serve as a continuation to the story of Stranger Things. What this mysterious spinoff will be all about, remains a mystery.
Thankfully, in a recent interview with Variety, Matt and Ross Duffer teased a bit about the upcoming Stranger Things spinoff that would follow the series. Although the spinoff wasn't yet announced by Netflix, it appears that the two are confident about its development.
When asked if they would wait for the series to conclude before working on the untitled spinoff project, the Duffer Brothers said they 'probably' would. "There's a version of it developing in parallel [to season 5], but they would never shoot it parallel," Ross said. "I think actually we're going to start delving into that soon as we're winding down and finishing these visual effects, Matt and I are going to start getting into it."
Matt added, "The reason we haven't done anything is just because you don't want to be doing it for the wrong reasons, and it was just like, 'Is this something I would want to make regardless of it being related to Stranger Things or not?' And definitely. Even if we took the Stranger Things title off of it, I'm so, so excited about it. But it is not… It's going to be different than what anyone is expecting, including Netflix."
At this point, it's still too hard to figure out what the spinoff will center on, especially now that we are just at the thrilling Endgame of the show. Certainly, we would all get an idea once the season finale premiered and set things up for the spinoff. Sadly, it seems highly unlikely that the Hawkins crew would return for the spinoff, and restart the franchise with new characters.
While fans continue to wonder about the upcoming spinoff, the Duffer Brothers recently revealed that Finn Wolfhard only knows what the spinoff will be all about. For now, we might get a hint when Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 2 arrives on July 1.
