Stranger Things 3: David Harbour Teases Hopper's Relationship With Joyce Byers

The kids are not the only ones who will be experiencing some growing pains in Stranger Things Season 3. David Harbour has just revealed that Chief Jim Hopper will be testing his relationship with Joyce Byers, but it isn't what you think it is.

Harbour recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about what will happen to Hopper in the third season. The Hellboy star shared that his character might appear to be loosening up (he wears a cool Hawaiian shirt in a few scenes) but he's dealing with some issues now that his adopted daughter Eleven (now Jane Hopper) is in a relationship with Mike Wheeler.

"It thrusts him into a discussion with Joyce," Harbour said. "She's able to offer me some advice on how to deal with being a single parent and how to, like, you know, stop being so damn controlling."

Fans have been hoping that Hopper and Joyce might actually pursue a relationship after everything that happened in the previous season. Although we have yet to learn if a romance is in order, it's nice to know that the two have remained close after everything they have been through.

What else is different about Hopper this year? Interestingly, being a single dad has a strange effect on his appearance in Stranger Things Season 3.

"This season, Hopper does a lot of really big, like, action-y things," Harbour said. "But he's fatter than you've ever seen him and less capable of hurting people, but a little more capable because he's just like a big elephant."

We're certainly rooting for Hopper. Let's just hope he can manage to keep his daughter safe this summer.

Stranger Things Season 3 will air on Netflix on July 4.
