The entire Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom went absolutely nuts when a massive rumor circulated yesterday on social media surrounding one of the franchise's biggest projects. According to reports, one of the film industry's most celebrated and influential directors Steven Spielberg is joining the billion-dollar franchise to helm the highly anticipated Fantastic Four reboot.

We published a report yesterday (via ComicBookMovie) about Marvel Studios allegedly courting the Jaws, E.T., and Jurassic Park filmmaker to direct the said project and while the idea seems a little too farfetched to believe, a lot of people bought into the rumor mill.

We hate to break it to you though because Spielberg's rumored involvement in the MCU is actually false. According to Variety's Senior Entertainment Writer Adam Vary, there's no truth to the "wildly implausible" rumor. Vary's report is seemingly supported by a leak shared by Inverse which claims Marvel has yet to find the project's director.

There's no doubt that Spielberg potentially helming an MCU project would be an absolute game-changer for the comic book film genre but let's be honest, he is bigger than the franchise and considering he's already cemented his legacy in the world of filmmaking, he's got nothing to prove.

Now, I'm pretty sure Kevin Feige will be able to recruit someone of Spielberg's caliber to create the definitive Fantastic Four movie and Marvel Studios sure won't let the fandom down.

Marvel Studios' Fantastic Four reboot is currently under development.
