Steven Spielberg No Longer Directing Indiana Jones 5, Logan Director Reportedly in Talks as Replacement

It looks like Indiana Jones 5 is about to go through some major changes, as reports are claiming that Steven Spielberg has stepped down from the director's chair. This is a pretty shocking development since the fifth film gathered so much fanfare for having Spielberg alone, though he might already have a replacement and he is quite worthy. Then again, Spielberg hasn't been doing too well recently so maybe he is better off as a producer.

According to Variety, Spielberg is out and James Mangold is in talks to replace him. Mangold has directed Logan and the Oscar-nominated Ford v Ferrari, so we can all see why they would want him to handle this. Some of us now want to see an Indiana Jones movie where he meets his clone who then takes over his adventures, which would be awesome.

Spielberg might not be directing anymore but that doesn't mean he won't be involved. Yeah, he'll be a producer but will reportedly be very hands-on with the project, which does make some sense. He did direct a number of Indiana Jones movies after all and he obviously has some attachment to the character. That or he knows all of Indy's most marketable aspects.

Harrison Ford will stay on as the lead star and it looks like we won't be getting Shia LeBeuf, which was teased during The Crystal Skull. Then again, considering LeBeuf's relationship with Spielberg these days, we're not surprised that he won't reprise the role.

Indiana Jones 5 doesn't have a release date yet.
