Star Wars: Was Dr Pershing Trying to Harvest Baby Yoda's Midichlorians in The Mandalorian?

It's a fact that people were concerned about Baby Yoda in the third episode of The Mandalorian (we're all attached to the adorable munchkin, there's no need to be ashamed). But why exactly was the Client (and his possible benefactor) so eager to get their hands on the Child? A new Star Wars theory suggests that Dr. Pershing may have been commissioned to extract Baby Yoda's midichlorians for the Empire (or at least what's left of it).

In The Mandalorian Episode 3, the bounty hunter brought the Child to the Client but later changed his mind and decided to rescue Baby Yoda. Before he could grab his little friend, Mando overheard the Client telling Dr. Pershing to "extract the necessary materials and be done with it" although the scientist doesn't seem eager to get rid of (read: kill) the Child at all.

Wait, so what are these "necessary materials" that they are talking about? We've previously reported that it could be genetic material needed to create a clone. However, Screenrant suggests that the Client might actually be ordering Dr. Pershing to harvest the Child's midichlorians instead.

It's an interesting idea considering that we don't know much about midichlorians other than Anakin Skywalker had a really high count of these microscopic lifeforms. Additionally, Baby Yoda's species is another mystery that George Lucas doesn't really talk about but since most of them are Jedi Masters, they probably have plenty of midichlorians, too.

But how can midichlorians help the Client and the Empire? It's possible that the Empire is trying to create Force-enhanced soldiers who could be more effective at times of war. If this is the case, we're glad that Mando got Baby Yoda out of that bunker.

Do you think the Empire is trying to harvest midichlorians for an evil purpose in The Mandalorian? Let us know in the comments below.
