Star Wars Uncle Owen Actor Joel Edgerton Being Eyed For Mortal Kombat Reboot

It's been a while since Mortal Kombat gamers have seen a film release. The first Mortal Kombat movie hit cinemas in 1995 and the film's sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihilation dropped in 1997. Ever since then there's been talk about a third movie, but the project never came to fruition.

Now, Aquaman director James Wan is producing the Mortal Kombat reboot together with his Atomic Monster production company and reports say that the project is close to getting the thumbs up by New Line Cinema.

Aside from that The Hashtag Show reports that the filmmakers behind the Mortal Kombat reboot are setting their sights on Joel Edgerton to play the lead role of Kano in the film.

For those who aren't familiar with the actor, Edgerton is best known for his role as young Uncle Owen in Star Wars prequel trilogy films like Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones as well as Star Wars: Episode III –Revenge of the Sith. Fans have a soft spot for young Uncle Owen, and the actor's expressed his interest in returning to the franchise in the rumored Obi-Wan Kenobi movie.

Aside from his role in the galaxy far, far away, Edgerton has also had roles in several action films. The actor has a black belt in Shotokan karate. He's also learned boxing and ju-jutsu for his part in Warrior.

Given his experience in both blockbuster and action movies, Edgerton would make a fine fit for Kano in the Mortal Kombat reboot.

The project has yet to receive a release date, but we'll update everyone as soon as we get word.
