Star Wars Theory Tries to Explain Palpatine’s True Plans for Kylo Ren

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker may have revealed Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) as the puppeteer controlling Snoke, however, the movie failed to divulge the Emperor's original plans for Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) when he was under Supreme Leader Snoke.

Episode IX was too focused on Palpatine's connection with Rey to bother explaining what the Emperor really wanted from Ben Solo when he decided to turn the son of Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Leia (Carrie Fisher) away from the Light Side.

Hoping to fill in the gaps, Reddit user AndrewBurt120 has a fan theory that posits Palpatine's original plans for Kylo Ren.

According to the Star Wars fan, Palpatine may have wanted Kylo Ren to turn to the Dark Side for the same reason that he wanted Rey – to inhabit her body. Kylo's inner turmoil was one of the keys to Darth Sidious plans for Ben Solo. In the movie, we get to hear the Emperor declaring that he has "been every voice you have ever heard inside your head" the moment Kylo Ren arrives on Exegol.

Palpatine wanted to manipulate Kylo Ren to kill Rey which would later on drive Kylo to turn against the Emperor. Returning to Exegol, Kylo Ren would then kill Palpatine out of revenge, and then it would allow Darth Sidious to overtake the body of Ben Solo.

It's an interesting theory, to say the least. We wouldn't doubt Palpatine wanting control over Kylo Ren's body the same way that he wanted control over Rey – after all, the two are a dyad in the Force.
