Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker might be one of the biggest films of the year, but it looks like the success of the third and final entry in Lucasfilm's Star Wars sequel trilogy won't really matter to Disney.
According to a report by Forbes, the Mickey Mouse House's box office haul for the year is going to be just fine even if (and if) The Rise of Skywalker doesn't perform as well as expected at the box office. The publication suggests that Disney's slate is already doing well enough thanks to the earnings of major films like Avengers: Endgame, Frozen II, and The Lion King.
The Mickey Mouse House already hit a record $10 billion gross this year at the box office thanks to all the major films that it's released, and that number comes before The Rise of Skywalker's big premiere.
Still, Disney doesn't have much to worry about Episode IX. Forbes writes that the domestic tracking for the film is still projected to over or under a $200 million haul during the movie's opening weekend. Analysts expect the film to have a long and leggy run, meaning more money for Disney at the end of The Rise of Skywalker's theatrical release.
Of course, the Mickey Mouse House is expecting a lot from Episode IX. Not only is the movie supposed to close the curtain on Disney's Star Wars sequel trilogy, it's also supposed to serve as the culmination of the entire Skywalker saga. Star Wars Fans wouldn't miss out on that.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
