Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was Supposed to Feature The Last Jedi Favorites

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker may have retconned many of the concepts introduced in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, however, it seems like a few fan-favorite characters from Episode VIII were supposed to appear in the third and final entry in Disney's Star Wars sequel trilogy.

Star Wars concept artist and creature designer Jake Lunt Davies just recently took to Instagram to share some of his artwork featured in Art of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker book. Surprisingly enough, the art piece featured a very different version of the Caretakers that fans got to meet in The Last Jedi.

While they sported the same froggish look of the nuns on Ahch-To, Davies' version of the caretakers had them lugging around weapons while they patrolled the streets of Kijimi with sinister red eyes.

"At one point in an early version of the script, Rey, Poe, Finn etc were going to run into a gang of Lanai 'Caretaker' Assassins on the streets of Kijimi," the Star Wars concept artist wrote in his post.

You can check out the art piece down here:

It's such a shame that the Caretaker Assassins didn't make it into The Rise of Skywalker. We're sure that fans would have loved to see the Caretakers make an appearance in Episode IX – even though they aren't exactly the same as the pernickety nuns cleaning up the dwellings on Ahch-To.
