Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker: Possible New Details on the Sith Troopers

Disney has been keeping very quiet about Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but Comic-Con did give us a look at the new red Sith troopers. We don't have that many official details on them now, but Making Star Wars may have gotten some new info on this elite type of trooper.

Rumor has it that these Sith troopers were actually a secret army that Palpatine had hidden away in the unknown regions, and the movie will have Kylo Ren attempting to look for them in order to use them to gain control. MSW writes:

The red Sith Stormtroopers which belong to Palpatine are hidden away inside a massive fleet, probably as a final act so upon his resurrection he could dominate the universe once more. However, the Death Star II wasn't Palpatine's last project. These Star Destroyers are equipped with "planet-destroying weapons like the one on the Death Star itself."

Star Wars Battlefront II had shown us that Palpatine had several contingency plans in the event that he would die, so it's interesting to see some of these actually come to life onscreen as compared to a video game.

Of course, we should take this news with a grain of salt. After all, it's weird that this third movie would go back to another "planet-destroying weapon." I thought we were officially done with that when Starkiller Base blew up in The Force Awakens.

For now, everyone is hoping we get a full trailer and some more details at the D23 Expo this August. The event runs from Aug. 23–26.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker comes out Dec. 20.
