Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker: Possible New Details on the Sith Fleet

D23 gave us a new look at the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and though the trailer is short, we do get a lot of amazing shots for the film. One shot, in particular, was a fleet of Empire-era Star Destroyers, and we may have some new details on the ships and where they are.

[WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD]

According to Making Star Wars, the ships we saw represent the "Sith Fleet" and are one of the many contingency plans of Palpatine in the event that he should unexpectedly die. The fleet was said to have been hidden away in the Unknown Regions for the past 30 years, and it's Kylo Ren that ends up finding it in order to harness its power.

Too bad for Kylo, because the fleet is said to be loyal only to Palpatine, and it's likely that the Emperor has found a way resurrect himself (probably through Kylo) and with Kylo unleashing this army Palpatine will already have a loyal army at his disposal.

We don't really know much about the troopers, but it's said that they're way fiercer than regular stormtroopers. A Sith pilot is even said to be impressive enough that when its ship is destroyed, it jumps out in a jetpack a la Boba Fett and continues fighting.

This is also just my personal guess, but I'm imagining that the Sith Troopers are a clone army with the genetic template of Anakin Skywalker. I mean, they don't have to use the Force, but how insane would it be that the Resistance and the First Order find themselves fighting off an army of Darth Vaders? It also adds that extra amount of tragedy to Vader's story. Plus, it's the perfect way to get Hayden Christensen to cameo.

Of course, we should just wait for the movie to come out before we believe any of this. I guess the best thing we can really do as fans is to speculate.

Catch Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in theaters Dec. 20.
