Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker: Kevin Smith Teases A Massive Set

While he's more associated with comics, director Kevin Smith is also a huge Star Wars fan, and he's been lucky enough to be invited on the Lucasfilm sets for the sequel trilogy. He had actually paid a visit to the set of The Rise of Skywalker, and Smith talks a bit about what seems to be one of the most massive sets ever built for a film.

Talking during his podcast, Smith explains:

"The point is, nobody knows what this movie is other than J. J. [Abrams]. I saw a little bit when I was there, but I didn't see – the only thing that was relevant, that was near what I saw, was that, at one point… There's a shot of the ship coming into the city in the mountains. I saw that, and it was huge. HUGE! It was such a big set, the biggest set I've seen in my life."

We don't really know what the significance of the location is yet, but some fans have noticed that the ship we see flying toward it could be the very same one that we see leaving Rey in Jakku back in The Force Awakens.

While The Last Jedi did opt to ditch a lot of things that we were expecting (Snoke being the main sequel trilogy villain, Rey being of special heritage), I think there are still some questions that deserve answers. For one, how did Luke's lightsaber make it to Takodana? What's the main vision behind the Knights of Ren? I'm even fine if Rey really got closure on who her parents are, but I'm just hoping they don't make her some legacy bloodline like a Kenobi or a secret Skywalker.

For now, we wait. Catch Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in theaters Dec. 20.
