Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Is Taking Some Inspiration From Iconic Revenge of the Sith Moment

Disney and Lucasfilm are pulling all the stops for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It is believed there's going to be a lot of easter eggs as it pays homage to the original and prequel films. One of which apparently comes from Revenge of the Sith.

Making Star Wars revealed in the latest episode of Now, This is Podcasting that the film will feature a callback to the iconic Duel of Mustafar between Anakin and Obi-Wan. There is apparently a pre-visual of Kylo Ren jumping out of his TIE fighter and coming down to meet his rival Obi-Wan style from Revenge of the Sith. He then ignites his lightsaber and fights Rey.

Indeed, Obi-Wan disembarking his ship was followed by one of the most memorable and epic fights in all of Star Wars. If it is an inspiration for Rey and Kylo Ren's confrontation in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, we could only hope this battle will be one for the books. It might even be a major turning point for the characters. It could mark the beginning of a new era for the Jedi or the Sith.

When Rey and Kylo Ren meet again, they are more powerful than ever. They will reportedly link minds through the Force again without Snoke's help and that they will show new Force abilities during their interactions.

Of course, a Revenge of the Sith nugget isn't even the biggest thing about what Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has in store in bringing the whole saga together.

Emperor Palpatine himself is back, but the circumstances of his return are unknown yet. His death was a major turning point for Darth Vader, so seeing him alive after all this time has some fans worried about what it can do to Anakin Skywalker's story.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters December 20.
