Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Could See Palpatine Bring Together Rey And Kylo Ren

Rey and Kylo Ren can't seem to resist working together. In Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the two will apparently team up once again.

According to sources that spoke to Jason Ward of Making Star Wars, the two will once again fight side by side against an "outside threat" in a black robe and cloak, which is speculated to be Emperor Palpatine.

In Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, they will apparently be in what the website referred to as "Force Flash Fights," which take those Force links in Star Wars: The Last Jedi a notch higher. Here, the background changes during their interactions. They will find themselves in locations that Star Wars fans know all too well from the prequel and original trilogies.

A source that spoke to Ward says that the transportation-style interactions will occur during Rey and Kylo Ren's battles, while another suggested that it is connected to the threat that they will be battling together.

Ward says that there is truth to both pieces of information he was provided, which is why he believes that Rey and Kylo Ren might duel initially in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but after realizing the presence of a much bigger threat, will use this new ability to their advantage.

Keep in mind that the two will be way more powerful than we last saw them, so they could be initiating these Force Flash Fights by themselves. Their anger and determination could be triggering all of it, but the missing puzzle piece is how they end up in these locations if they don't know about them personally outside of the stories they've been told, which may or may not be enough a trigger.

However, if you add Emperor Palpatine to the mix, and the idea that the Kylo Ren and Rey will essentially be transported to important locations from the past, it is possible that he may be pulling the strings.

We know that Sheev himself will be featured in the film in some way, shape, or form. However, it is unclear if he will be full-on reincarnation. Interestingly, this new piece of information suggests that he may actually be alive all along. Ward posits that Matt Smith's mysterious involvement may have something to do with that.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits the theaters on December 20.
