Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and The Mandalorian Have One Major Connection

When it was announced that The Mandalorian Episode 7 would air two days before Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, many assumed that it was Disney not wanting to lose Disney+ viewers when their highly-anticipated (and slightly disappointing) movie came out. However, once fans witnessed both Star Wars entertainment mediums, they found out the real reason why The Mandalorian was released before The Rise of Skywalker.

SPOILERS FOR THE RISE OF SKYWALKER

Fans were pleasantly surprised to see Baby Yoda use the previously non-canon Force Healing in The Mandalorian Episode 7, bringing that ability into the limelight. Two days later, it's revealed that Rey also knows this technique, which becomes a major part in The Rise of Skywalker. This is an interesting bit of corporate synergy and the folks at LucasFilm probably didn't want fans to think The Mandalorian was ripping off The Rise of Skywalker.

More likely is that they planned this so that fans could get blown away by the use of this Force Power, though many have associated it with The Dark Side. Say what you will about Revenge of the Sith but it did tease some of the more interesting aspects of The Dark Side, including the capability to heal wounds with The Force, even if it was a bit rushed.

No matter what you believe, it is kind of cool seeing these Force powers used so prominently. Expect this power to get overused in the future, whether it's in the books, video games, or comics, someone will overdo it at some point.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is now showing in theaters. The Mandalorian Episode 8 will air on December 27.
