Baby Yoda might be an important character in Star Wars: The Mandalorian, however, the series has no intention of revealing too much about Yoda's species.
The Mandalorian executive producer and pilot episode director Dave Filoni just recently spoke with Entertainment Tonight about the series, saying that he feels that he has "a lot of responsibility" when dealing with unexplored elements in the Star Wars franchise.
Sure, Baby Yoda might have stolen the hearts of Star Wars fans all around the globe the very minute he opened his eyes in the pilot episode of The Mandalorian, however, Filoni knows just how important the mystery of Yoda is to Star Wars creator George Lucas.
"One of the reasons that I really got interested in this story that Jon was pitching was the subject of this child. Knowing George and how important the character of Yoda is to him, I wanted to make sure that I could help shepherd this idea," Filoni said.
According to Filoni, The Mandalorian creative team still wants to retain the mystery behind Yoda's species.
"We still want to keep a lot of things a mystery, we don't want to go around answering things and making them less special, but let's tell a story that's interesting and compelling and add to this great galaxy," the Star Wars executive producer explained.
This might sound a bit disappointing to fans. Personally, we were pretty excited about the possibility of learning more about Yoda's species through this new baby in The Mandalorian. So little has been known about them. Aside from Jedi Master Yoda, there has only been one other member of the species that's been featured in the franchise – Yaddle, a member of the Jedi Council in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.
