The Child is basically one of the stars of The Mandalorian but the show is yet to reveal the origins of the adorable creature or any other background information for that matter, even his real name. While the identity of Baby Yoda is shrouded in mystery, his age was revealed in the show, which indicates a possible connection with Anakin Skywalker.
In a theory made by a fan on Reddit, doing a little math shows how The Child might fit into the larger franchise storyline. "Baby Yoda is 50 years old at the time of The Mandalorian, which takes place in 9 ABY," the Redditor wrote. "Meaning Baby Yoda was born in the year 41 BBY, the same year as Anakin Skywalker." This led to speculations that the creature ties into Anakin somehow or it could even be through Darth Plagueis.
While the math checks out, this theory doesn't necessarily bear much of an explanation as to how the Child could be connected with Anakin. That said, other fans do have theories in the comments on how the characters could fit into one narrative. Such as Yoda and Yaddle being born at the same time as other Sith Lords, with this mysterious species always popping up every time another Sith gets born. Basically, their mysterious species doesn't exist through natural circumstances, but by the ways of the Force.
Another speculation is quite similar, where it all boils down to balance. With Anakin being "born of evil" so Baby Yoda "had to be born of pure light." This could also be why Yoda died around the time of the Emperor as well.
What are your thoughts on this theory? Do you think this could be the reason behind the existence of The Child's mysterious species? Tell us in the comments below!
