Star Wars: The Mandalorian might be set years after the events of Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi, but alleged leaks for the second season of the hit Star Wars series seem to tease the return of the Empire.

The episode titles for The Mandalorian Season 2 have made their way online, and while the leak doesn't give that much information about the next season's plot, it does hint at what's to come. The Season 2 finale seems to be particularly alarming with its title, "The Empire."

Could "The Empire" hint at the return of Palpatine? If not, then maybe Palpatine's sources? Could it hint at the remnants of the Empire coming together to form the First Order?

While we can't be entirely sure what Jon Favreau has planned for the next season of The Mandalorian, fans are hoping that the series might help explain Palpatine's return in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The film heaped a whole lot of surprises – not only did Palpatine survive the fall from the Death Star, but he had managed to gather his own army in Exegol, create clones of himself, and manipulate Kylo Ren through Snoke.

It all seems a little bit too much, but maybe The Mandalorian could help flesh out Palpatine's return so that Episode IX's reveal wouldn't seem too awkward.
