Star Wars The Last Jedi: Mark Hamill Improvised that Small Moment with C-3PO

It was just recently revealed by Mark Hamill that he improvised that forehead kiss with Leia in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but as it turns out, he put a lot more into the scene. In a recent interview with Den of Geek, Hamill reveals that he was also behind that small moment where Luke winks at C-3PO before facing the First Order.

"They had me walking by 3PO, not even acknowledging him. I said: ‘I can't do that! He (The Last Jedi's director, Rian Johnson) said, ‘Okay, go over and do whatever.' So I went over, and I did whatever. They say it in the script: ‘Forget the past, kill it if you have to,' and they're doing a pretty good job!" Hamill explained.

It's no secret that Hamill had his qualms about the direction that The Last Jedi went, but he admits that it's not something that really worries him anymore. He goes on to say, "Listen, I never expected to come back. We had a beginning, a middle, and an end. That's what I said: why mess with it? It's not something that worries me, because it's all about the new generation, as it should be."

While the debate on Luke's characterization in The Last Jedi is still ongoing to this day, I'd just like to say that I loved where they took his character. Instead of the infallible hero, we got someone with flaws and fears, making Luke even more relatable. It even becomes all the more powerful when Luke once again embraces his ‘Legend' status and sacrifices himself to save the Resistance, after all those years of self-doubt.

Even Luke making fun of Rey by tickling her fingers adds a little sense of kookiness that would make Master Yoda proud. I don't know about you, but it's great they gave Luke even just a little sense of humor.

For now, we wait for Hamill to make a reappearance in Star Wars Episode IX which comes out Dec. 20.
