Star Wars: The Last Jedi Main Film That Helped Disney Profit From Its Lucasfilm Acquisition

Disney paid a hefty sum to acquire Lucasfilm back in 2012, and now, six years after the purchase, the Mickey Mouse House has finally been able to make a profit out of all the new movies, television series, and merchandise that it's created out of everyone's favorite galaxy far, far, away. Most of it is thanks to Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

According to ComicBook.com, The Last Jedi was one of the main films to help push Disney's cumulative earnings from its Star Wars films over the $4.05 billion marks (the sum that the company paid to acquire the Star Wars franchise).

Zooming past the $900 million signpost on the global box office market less than two weeks after its release in cinemas, The Last Jedi's earnings coupled with Disney's haul from Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story helped put the company over Lucasfilm's $4.05 billion price tag.

Solo: A Star Wars Story might not have earned much, however, the film's $392 million haul at the global box office definitely helped add to Disney's profit.

Of course, the box office revenue that Disney's made from all its Star Wars films isn't the only source of Star Wars income the Mickey Mouse House has. We shouldn't be forgetting the revenue streams that the company makes from its TV series, novels, books and all the other merchandise that Disney makes out of Star Wars. It's very likely that Disney started profiting from its Lucasfilm acquisition a few years ago – it's hard to deduce when exactly the Star Wars purchase paid off when we have to factor the expenses and the net profits the company made out of all the different sources of Star Wars revenue that it has.

All we know is that Disney's making major money out of the franchise.
