Star Wars: Episode IX’s Richard E Grant Teases Interrogation Scenes And Moments With Rey

Richard E. Grant might be a tad bit clammy when it comes to his role in Star Wars: Episode IX, but it looks like details about his Star Wars audition just might be able to give some fans a few clues about the character he's going to play in the sequel to The Last Jedi.

Speaking in an interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via Star Wars blog Sleemo), Grant decided to open up about his experience being cast in the final installment in Lucasfilm's Star Wars sequel trilogy.

Though the actor says that the scenes that he was asked to do weren't specific to the Star Wars franchise, they do seem to hint at something that director J.J. Abrams would want to see Grant acting on in Episode IX.

"I got sent a 10-page generic sort of, I think it was an interrogation scene clearly from a 1940s British B picture because the references were not Star Wars and the language was something that my grandfather would have spoken in," Grant told Horowitz during the interview.

Continuing his story with the interviewer, Grant also revealed that he had met with Rey actress Daisy Riddley together with Abrams during his audition, the director trying to confirm that the actor would work together with the.

While it might not be much, but this little tidbit might suggest that Grant's character could be part of the First Order. After all, the fascist regime is fond of interrogating its captives – there have been multiple interrogations in the sequel trilogy alone. Remember that scene with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and Rey (Daisy Ridley) in The Force Awakens? How about Snoke and Rey in The Last Jedi?

If anything, it's likely we'll get to see Grant interrogating Rey at some point during Episode IX. Let's just wait and see.

Star Wars: Episode IX hits cinemas December 20, 2019.
