Star Wars: The Last Jedi Has Been Trending with an Outpour of Support

Star Wars: The Last Jedi has been trending on Twitter the past few days.

While the top tweets were negative responses to Rian Johnson's critically-acclaimed Star Wars entry, these posts were quickly flooded by an overwhelming outpour of love for what many consider to be one of the most divisive films in the Star Wars franchise.

Coming to the film's defense, Star Wars fans began sharing all of the things that they loved about The Last Jedi, praising the film's writing, directing, acting, and cinematography.

The Last Jedi was a major success for Lucasfilm. Raking in more than $1.3 billion at the global box office when it was released in 2016, the film captured the attention of critics who praised the film for its emotion-rich narrative and its beautiful cinematography.

However, despite all of the film's critical acclaim, traditional Star Wars fans lambasted the film for its attempts at subverting the Star Wars franchise and for allegedly "misusing" legacy characters like Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill).

There were fans that didn't quite appreciate how The Last Jedi turned Luke into a hermit hiding from the shame of his mistakes – they would much rather see Luke remain a benevolent and flawless Jedi instead of allowing him to be human.

Other fans yet bombed the film because of its female characters like Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran) and Admiral Holdo (Laura Dern).
