There is little doubt that being a Clone Trooper isn't the most relaxing job in the Star Wars Universe but at least Captain Rex can be proud of his hard work. After all, he just earned a small victory in Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7 Episode 2.
WARNING: The following contains spoilers from Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7 Episode 2. Proceed with caution.
In A Distant Echo, Rex leads Anakin Skywalker and the Bad Batch to the planet Skako Minor to find the source of the broadcast they discovered in the premiere episode. It's not just a mission to silence this strange voice that knows all of the Republic's battle strategy: this is a rescue mission for Rex who is hoping that his old friend Echo is still alive.
It doesn't seem like a hopeful cause, at least not for Anakin, who immediately brings up his frustration with Rex when he contacts Padme Amidala. Crosshairs also isn't as optimistic about the whole thing. Nevertheless, Rex firmly believes that he will be able to save Echo and that's exactly what he does.
Echo might still be alive but he's barely hanging on when Rex and Tech find him in a stasis chamber. The clone trooper appears to have been drugged with several of his limbs replaced with prosthetics. The episode concludes with Rex trying to soothe his old friend as he and Tech work at releasing him from the chamber.
Sure, it's a small victory for Rex but it's still unclear if Echo will manage to survive the rescue. Perhaps we'll find out just what happened to him in the next episode of The Clone Wars Season 7.
A Distant Echo is currently streaming on Disney+.
