The seventh season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars is premiering today and while there are fans eager to see the return of Jedi heroes like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, the Star Wars' series last batch of episodes is going to focus more on fan-favorite characters like Ahsoka Tano and Captain Rex.

"I began making ‘The Clone Wars' right after ‘Revenge of the Sith' came out and you didn't know at that time that Anakin had a Padawan, or that Maul was alive, or anything about the personal nature of the clones," Filoni told the publication.

In his interview with the entertainment news outlet, the showrunner teases what's next for original characters introduced in The Clone Wars.

"What happens in the end for these characters? Maul is an instigator for many of the things that happen and we learn things about him that tells us more about the perception of evil and the workings of Darth Sidious," the Star Wars producer went on.

The Clone Wars had a rocky start when it debuted on Cartoon Network on 2008, but the series improved over the years, turning into the one of the most memorable parts of Star Wars canon. The show introduced fan-favorite characters like Anakin Skywalker's padawan Ahsoka Tano and Captain Rex – characters that everyone's eager to see again in the last batch of episodes of the series.
