Star Wars: The Acolyte Scores Franchise’s Record-Breaking Runtime

Lucasfilm has been revamping the billion-dollar franchise by creating their own universe and expanding its worldbuilding through live-action TV shows. While this goes a long mile in rebuilding the high quality they promised in their films, as well, the growing live-action series is nothing to sneeze at.

In this case, Star Wars: The Acolyte is set to be their next live-action release, one that is not set to follow any pre-existing Star Wars characters nor will be a part of the Mandoverse, which pretty much already charms out the rest of the series Lucasfilm had done so far.

While this highly anticipated show has yet to receive its official premiere date, the series just scored a record-breaking runtime amid the franchise’s history!

According to a new listing, aka a post on an agency site for The Acolyte’s Intimacy Coordinator Adelaide Waldrop, the new Star Wars series is set to have eight episodes and each episode is approximately running at 60 minutes long, which could potentially break the record for being the longest live-action Star Wars episode.

It is worth mentioning that the longest streaming episode in Star Wars is The Bad Batch, in which the premiere ran for 1 hour and 11 minutes, although this is an animated project. However, The Mandalorian Season 3 did just clock in with a record-breaking episode 3 running for 56 minutes and 11 seconds long.

Take note, previous Star Wars series seem to have been running a pattern of each season containing merely eight episodes.

While this may be evident in plenty of limited series to ease audiences in consuming the material, The Mandalorian Seasons 1 and 2 both have eight episodes each, so with The Acolyte gaining the similar golden number, it is possible that the runtime means more than its record-breaking deal for the franchise, especially since The Acolyte will also be Star Wars’ first Sith-led story.

Star Wars: The Acolyte is currently expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2024.
