For years, there have been reports that Lucasfilm is developing a screen adaptation of the beloved Star Wars video game series Knights of the Old Republic. Kathleen Kennedy even confirmed in an interview that they are "developing something to look at" based on it.

However, since then, we haven't heard any updates about its development as Lucasfilm is also more focused on its other film and TV projects that are mostly set in the "MandoVerse."

A lot of fans have been clamoring for Lucasfilm to eventually do a screen adaptation of the beloved video game series due to its epic scope which gives it a lot of potential for storytelling in either film or TV.

We've also seen them embrace projects that are set in a timeline outside the Skywalker Saga such as The Acolyte which is set a hundred years before the events of the prequel trilogy and it shows us that they are now willing to explore the other eras.

According to a recent scoop from insider MyTimeToShineHello on X, Lucasfilm has started developing a Knight of the Old Republic project prior to the strikes and they claimed that it was never in the works back when it was rumored years ago.

The project is now expected to continue its development once the strike ends. It is unknown yet whether the screen adaptation will be a feature film or a live-action TV series on Disney+.

This is certainly an exciting update for fans who have been looking forward to seeing this project happen if the scoop is indeed true and we should be able to hear more details about this once Lucasfilm is ready to confirm its existence.

Projects like The Acolyte and James Mangold's Dawn of the Jedi project may have also helped Lucasfilm to heavily consider the idea and finally make it happen once the strike ends.

It might take a while before we see the project happen if ever Lucasfilm decided to move forward with it. Nevertheless, there is no doubt that fans will definitely look ward to seeing this come to fruition given how beloved the source material is.
