Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi Has Significant Luke And Darth Vader Moment Many Fans Missed

Some Star Wars fans might have already meticulously gone through all the details of Lucasfilm's original Star Wars trilogy, but according to one eagle-eyed viewer, a lot of fans might have actually missed a significant moment between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

In Return of the Jedi, fans might remember Luke making his way across the Empire to turn his father to the light. Of course, Vader refuses to turn, and when the iconic heavy-breathing Star Wars villain tries to persuade his son to the Dark Side, the two come to a head. The two soon battle each other before Vader decides to turn against the Emperor, killing Darth Sidious and saving his son.

However, before the battle between Vader and Sidious, Reddit user Major Batarang claims that the Star Wars baddie had another moment where he protected Luke in the film.

"Just finished watching ROTJ for like the millionth time, and I just noticed something that I never have before," the Star Wars fan wrote on the site. "In the scene where Luke goes to kill the Emperor, Vader saves his son from starting down towards the Dark Side by deflecting Luke's attack."

It's easy to miss, but right before Luke tries to swing for Emperor Palpatine, Vader turns on his saber. While some might assume that the response shows Vader attempting to protect Palpatine, this fan explains that the scene could have actually been Vader preventing his son from going down a path that he can't follow.

Of course, as interesting as this analysis sounds, some fans might try and disagree.

What do you think of Vader protecting Luke early on in Return of the Jedi? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.
