Star Wars Episode IX: Could Richard E. Grant be Playing an Older Ben Kenobi?

It was reported recently that Richard E. Grant was possibly teasing that his character in Star Wars Episode IX was someone familiar, but we haven't had any good guesses on who he could be. Thanks to this small edit on Reddit, I'm now kind of convinced that he's going to be playing an older Ben Kenobi.

Grant had said that the ‘room went upside down' when J.J. Abrams told him who he would be playing, and everyone immediately thought that it was a recognizable character. I guess I was completely blindsided, thinking that Grant was playing a First Order officer; I never really considered that he could be playing one of the good guys. He kind of looks like Sir Alec Guinness, and he's the right age to play a Force Ghost Obi-Wan.

While some may think that only Ewan McGregor can play the role of Kenobi, I think it's better to cast someone who looks like Alec Guinness instead of having McGregor in heavy make-up. We don't really know what Obi-Wan can do for the story, but I guess he could appear alongside Luke as a Force Ghost, talking to Rey.

Then again, this is all just speculation on my point. How blown would everyone's mind be if Obi-Wan did come back though? I'm just hoping they still introduce a bunch of new things and don't rely too heavily on nostalgia.

Catch Star Wars Episode IX in theaters Dec. 20.
