Star Wars Qui-Gon Jinn May Have Always Known That Anakin Would Turn Into Vader

Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson) might not have had that much time in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, but he was certainly a highly respective, though unconventional Jedi Master.

Most fans remember Qui-Gonn for discovering young Anakin Skywalker, the Chosen One from Jedi prophecy. However, now that the Skywalker saga's culminated with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, fans are taking a look back at where the story all began and wonder whether Qui-Gon also knew that Anakin would eventually turn to the Dark Side.

According to a theory posited by Inverse, it's very likely that Qui-Gon knew that Anakin would eventually bring balance to the Force years after turning to the Dark Side. Not only does Star Wars have a tendency to lean into clairvoyance (take for example Palpatine who often talks about the things that he's "foreseen," and Luke Skywalking making questionable decisions in the sequel trilogy after seeing dark Force visions), but Qui-Gon's perception of Anakin seems to be rather vague.

There isn't any real evidence that Qui-Gon believed that Anakin would become a great person – the Jedi Master simply believed that Anakin was "The Chosen One." The theory also points out how Qui-Gon describes the young Skywalker as a "vergence" in the Force, meaning that the child had something to do with a blend of the Light Side and the Dark Side.

This suggests that Qui-Gonn knew that Anakin would stray from the light someday, though, he would eventually bring balance to the Force by returning to the path of righteousness.
