Star Wars: Ming-Na Wen Clarifies Whether She Influenced Fennec Shand's Survival

We're all glad that Fennec Shand is back despite being killed off in the first season of The Mandalorian. After all, she's being played by Ming-Na Wen who clearly wants to keep playing the former bounty hunter. But did the Agents of SHIELD actress go out of her way to convince people to bring Fennec back in the Star Wars series? Wen has shared exactly what happened that led to the return of her character in the Disney+ show.

Ming-Na Wen was introduced as Fennec Shand in The Mandalorian Season 1 Episode 5 as an assassin who becomes Mando's target. Although she tries to convince Mando's companion Toro Calican to turn against the Mandalorian and collect his bounty, Toro shoots her instead to collect the bounty on his own. Fennec is left for dead but her body is later approached by a mysterious figure.

The mysterious figure turned out to be Boba Fett and it was revealed in The Mandalorian Season 2 that he had nursed her back to health, leading to an awesome partnership between two truly deadly individuals. But did Ming-Na Wen somehow talk Dave Filoni into resurrecting her character? A new report suggests that Wen convinced Filoni to give Fennec another chance after they bonded over going to the same high school. However, Wen was quick to explain what truly went down.

"'Convinced' is not the correct word here. It gives me power I do not have. I merely suggested to Dave jokingly that Fennec survives," Wen tweeted. "I was very surprised and delighted when Fennec came back to life for #TheMandalorian S2. This decision was made by Dave, Jon & Lucasfilm."

We doubt that Fennec was supposed to stay dead in the first place. It's pretty clear that Star Wars had big plans for the character despite her death in The Mandalorian. Either way, we're happy to know that Fennec still has more to do in the Star Wars Universe.

Wen returns as Fennec Shand in The Book of Boba Fett, which premieres on Disney+ on December 29, 2021.
