Star Wars: Lucasfilm Said To Have A Jabba The Hutt Story In Development

When Hellboy director Guillermo del Toro expressed interest in directing a Jabba the Hutt spinoff movie for Lucasfilm, he said that he wanted it to document Jabba's rise to power in the criminal underworld ala The Godfather. As it turns out, Lucasfilm actually has a Jabba movie in the works. No, really.

When Variety reported that Lucasfilm is definitely working on a Obi-Wan Kenobi spinoff, they also mentioned some other movies in development, and the characters that were mentioned for these spinoffs are Boba Fett and—who else—Jabba the Hutt.

Though Jabba is one of the more recognizable characters in the universe, I can't really imagine a movie with him in the center doing really well. If Jabba were to appear in a movie, I'm sure it would be as a side character; maybe in a Boba Fett movie or the upcoming Han Solo spinoff. I'd like to see just how Han Solo incurred his debt with the notorious gangster slug.

For now, Lucasfilm is preparing for the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Han Solo: A Star Wars Story. The studio is planning on announcing their next spinoff soon, and it's probably a safe bet to think that this announcement will be the Obi-Wan Kenobi solo movie.

The next Star Wars film coming out will be The Last Jedi, and it's slated for a release on Dec. 15.
