Star Wars Resistance's Leia voice actress Rachel Butera is under fire online after making a post mocking the voice of Pao Alto University Professor of Psychology, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.
The actress took to Twitter today to post a video of herself mocking Dr. Ford's voice while the professor was testifying that she had been sexually assaulted by United States Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh.
Ford testified in front of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee that Kavanaugh had sexually assaulted her while they were attending a gathering in high school.
The Federal Judge is President Trump's top candidate for the United States Supreme Court, and Kavanaugh has since denied the allegations made by Ford.
Responding to the testimony made by Ford on Capitol Hill, Butera decided to post a video of herself mocking the Professor's speaking voice, writing on the post, "I can't believe this is my voice, can you??? Dr. Christine Blasey-Vocal Fry-Ford."
Butera's followers quickly responded to Butera's post, criticizing her for rude and insensitive video. The voice actress was quick to delete the offensive video, changing the settings of her account on Twitter so that she'd only be visible to her followers.
Unfortunately, people had already been able to take screenshots of her post before she could make any changes to her post or to her account, and word about Butera's actions has spread like wildfire online. Soon enough, Butera was being called out for her video by Star Wars fans, members of the press, and individuals who've worked on various Star Wars projects.
Many are anticipating some sort of response from Disney – after all, the Mickey Mouse House was pretty quick to ax director James Gunn for making tasteless jokes 14 years in the past. We wonder how this controversy is going to affect the already divisive Star Wars Resistance which premieres on October 7.
