Star Wars Legend Mark Hamill Reveals His Favorite Star Wars Movie

Mark Hamill is one of the biggest stars in the Star Wars franchise, so it doesn't come as a surprise to see fans wanting to know which of the many different Skywalker entries is the Star Wars Legend's favorite. Though the actor does admit that it's pretty hard picking a favorite Star Wars film because of all the unique experiences they offer, he would name Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back as his number one Star Wars movie.

Speaking in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hamill was recently asked about his favorite entry in the Star Wars franchise.

"It's like, pick your favorite child. You like them all for different reasons," Hamill started, explaining why it was difficult naming only one film.

"I guess I'd have to go with Empire, only because it was so unexpected to have the protagonist be so soundly defeated," the Star Wars legend decided, "Losing the hand and the dad Vader, all of it was pretty unexpected. And it was much more cerebral. Yoda is such an important addition to the mythology and I thought it was so clever of George, the concept of the Force, so you can talk about religion and spirituality without making everyone uncomfortable. So, for that alone."

Aside from being a Star Wars actor, Hamill has been a huge Star Wars fan as well, pitching various ideas for Luke Skywalker's story arc to George Lucas and Lucasfilm. Earlier this week the actor revealed that he had pitched an alternative story for Luke in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, one that would have called back to a scene in A New Hope where Luke rescues Leia (the late Carrie Fisher) from the hands of the Empire.

Hamill is set to reprise his role as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode IX which is set to premiere on December 20, 2019.
