Star Wars Legend Mark Hamill Addresses Guardians of the Galaxy Casting

Mark Hamill is and will always be synonymous with the Star Wars franchise but now that the Skywalker saga has officially come to a close, fans of the acting legend want to see him join another massive film franchise and to them, Hamill should be Marvel Cinematic Universe-bound. Now, in case you didn't know, the Luke Skywalker actor has long been rumored to make an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and that absolutely sounds like an idea made in heaven.

However, director James Gunn himself previously dismissed rumors that Hamill will be part of the Guardians franchise, and given his track record of being honest and straightforward when it comes to online gossip and speculation, it's easy to take his word for it. Unsurprisingly, Hamill, who is easily one of the most social media savvy celebrities has heard about the said rumors, and now, he's finally breaking his silence on whether or not we'll see him in the MCU soon.

Speaking with ComicBook, Hamill revealed that he actually had the opportunity to meet with Gunn after learning that they're neighbors. He reveals: "We touched base because one Sunday night, I discovered he said something on Twitter and I replied back to him, he was answering a question, he said, 'I suppose I could ask Mark, I hear he's a neighbor of mine,' which was news to me. So we went back and forth and it was great fun and I said, 'I'd love to meet you, not only as a good neighbor but also as an out-of-work actor.' I was hardly subtle about it."

Don't get too excited though because the Star Wars veteran claims that they never actually talked about anything work-related and according to him, Gunn doesn't need him in any of his projects. He added: "He came over with his girlfriend and spent the afternoon, we had a great time, but we never talked about me working for him or anything like that. He was just a friend. I'd never put him on the spot like that, so we'll see what happens. But he doesn't need me, his movies are really well cast and I just really enjoy watching them."

While Gunn's remarks about Hamill not being in GOTG Vol. 3 may be true, there's no denying that he'll be a good addition to the franchise. On the other hand, I totally understand why he doesn't seem interested in casting him for the project because it may come across as overkill to some fans, especially the diehard fanatics of the Star Wars franchise. It would be pretty neat, still.

The MCU's third Guardians of the Galaxy film is scheduled for release on May 5, 2023.
