Fans have been clamoring to see Mark Hamill back in a huge media franchise following his decades-long involvement in the Star Wars universe.

Hamill, who has also been part of the DC and Marvel animated franchises has never appeared in a live-action comic book film but there's been an ongoing rumor that the acting legend is set to make his grand Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

When you think about it, Mark appearing in the Guardians film series makes absolute sense. Not only that, it sounds hella meta considering he played one of the biggest space heroes in all of pop culture. However, as good as the idea of him joining the MCU sounds, GOTG director James Gunn finally addressed his alleged involvement in the third film and put the rumors to rest.

Responding to a report from Big Screen Leaks claiming that the Luke Skywalker actor has indeed been cast in the upcoming film, Gunn simply said denied the report. The entertainment site's tweet was deleted shortly following Gunn's response. Check it out here:

While I don't mean to give anyone false hopes, Gunn's denial doesn't really say that much given the fact that Marvel is notorious for its secrecy. For all we know, Gunn might just be playing coy to avoid giving away potential spoilers for the film. But then again, the director of DC's upcoming The Suicide Squad is known for his brutal honesty so I guess he's actually telling the truth. But can you imagine an interaction between Star-Lord and Hamill's potential character? That would be huge.

The Suicide Squad is scheduled for a limited theatrical release on August 5, 2021. It will also be available on the same day on HBO Max.
