Star Wars: J.J. Abrams Favorite Prequel Scene is ‘The Tragedy of Darth Plagueis’

J.J. Abrams promises to make Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker the definitive end to not just the original SW trilogy, but the prequels as well. While a lot of fans are vocal about their distaste for the latter films, Abrams opens up about one of his favorite scenes.

Talking to EW, Abrams reveals that his favorite scene from the prequels is the one where Palpatine talks to Anakin about the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise. Abrams says, "There's just something about that scene… There's just two people sitting there. It's visually interesting. But I just think Ian's performance in it is spectacular."

It's funny that Abrams should pick this scene out, seeing that it's probably one of the most meme-able scenes from the prequel trilogy. Everything is just so fun about the scene from the way that Palpatine says "It's not a story the Jedi would tell you," to his smug "Ironic," line. I guess we could have gotten a bit more emotions from Anakin in the scene, but it's really Palpatine who steals this show.

Besides this scene, Abrams had also commented on the Duel of the Fates between Maul, Obi-Wan, and Qui-Gonn. He actually says he thinks the scene is "amazing", but was "over too quickly." It's kind of a shame that Abrams doesn't like the choreographed fight scenes in the prequels though, as he says he prefers the more guttural swings that we got from the original Star Wars trilogy.

For now, we wait for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker which hits theaters on Dec. 20.
