There was a time when people were hyped up about Ian McDiarmid's return as Emperor Palpatine in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. However, the villain was ultimately killed off in Episode IX (for the second time). But is it possible that Darth Sidious is set for another comeback? Ian McDiarmid has just teased at the possibility of returning as his iconic character in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series!

Palpatine might be dead after what happened in The Rise of Skywalker but it looks like Ian McDiarmid is eager to continue playing the Star Wars villain. While speaking to Metro, the Revenge of the Sith actor pointed out that Rey Skywalker really killed him this time.

"I think I have to accept that, thanks to my ungrateful granddaughter, my annihilation was finally final," McDiarmid said. He then pointed out that although his character will not return beyond the sequels, there is still a huge opportunity if we're looking towards the prequel shows.

"[But] of course [Darth] Vader is back in the new [Obi-Wan Kenobi] television series, so I suppose it's not impossible that one day his mentor might be discovered once again skulking in the shadows," McDiarmid said.

It's an interesting tease and a plausible one considering that Obi-Wan Kenobi takes place after the events in Revenge of the Sith where Palpatine was still very much alive. If this is the case, it wouldn't be a surprise if Palpy shows up in the Disney+ series.

For now, it has not yet been confirmed whether Palpatine will show up in Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, we wouldn't be surprised if McDiarmid has a cameo in the highly anticipated Star Wars series. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.

Obi-Wan Kenobi will star McDiarmid's prequel trilogy co-stars Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Joel Edgerton, and Bonnie Piesse. The series will premiere on Disney+ on May 25, 2022.
