There is little doubt that the first season of The Mandalorian introduced one of the most terrifying Star Wars villains ever although Moff Gideon only appeared in the last few episodes of the Disney+ show. But what are the chances that the character will have more screentime in Season 2? Giancarlo Esposito has confirmed that Gideon will have more epic scenes in the second season.
Esposito was in attendance at the TCA winter press tour where he was asked whether Gideon will play a larger role in The Mandalorian Season 2 (via Comicbook.com). Not surprisingly, the Better Call Saul star confirmed the villain will have a significant part to play later this year.
"It's growing," Esposito said of his character's role in the second season. "Yes, I do. I most certainly do."
We're happy to know that we'll see more of Gideon this fall. Not surprisingly, Esposito is also grateful to be given the chance to be a part of the Star Wars Universe.
"It's been exciting to be a part of that project because of the iconic nature of it, but even more so, because it has returned me to the Star Wars that I loved," Esposito said. "I saw the first few movies and dropped away because it became more and more in a different vein than what I wanted to be in, but this is the true space western. It gives you room and space and each one is a little bit of a film. So you're able to tell a story visually and it returns to the original guts of mythology-based deeply rooted in Joe Campbell's mythology which George Lucas was so fond of and which is why he was inclusive of that mythology in Star Wars so I'm pleased to be a part of that."
We know exactly what he means. Needless to say, we're hoping that Gideon will continue to be a part of The Mandalorian beyond the second season.
The Mandalorian Season 2 will premiere on Disney+ this fall.
