Star Wars Gets Its Own Villainous Game

It was recently announced by Ravensburger that a new Villainous game will take fans to the Star Wars universe. The game, Star Wars Villainous: Power of the Dark Side, is a new version of the popular Villainous game franchise, featuring six very iconic villains of the Star Wars franchise. Players can either choose between Asajj Ventress, Kylor Ren, Moff Gideon, General Grievous, or Darth Vader in a battle for supremacy. The game will be featuring new twists to the well-worn Villainous game engine, including the introductions of vehicles to the game for the first time. Vehicles in the game not only provide the players with more options or actions on their turn, but they can also interact with the vehicles in a lot of different ways.

Just like with the other Villainous games, Star Wars Villainous is built around asymmetric gameplay where the players will try to complete their villain’s winning objective before the other players. Each of the playable villains has their own goals - Darth Vader is attempting to get Luke Skywalker to join the Dark Side, while Moff Gideon is trying to kidnap Grogu and perform experiments on him. General Grievous’ objective is to try to collect a number of lightsabers from fallen Jedi, while Ventress’ objective is to complete various randomly selected missions. During the game, players can interfere with others using the Fate action, which causes Vehicles, Heroes, or other negative consequences to target another player.

Although the upcoming Star Wars Villainous: Power of the Darl Side follows its Villainous name with the Disney Villainous and Marvel Villainous games, each Villainous franchise is intended to stand alone, as each franchise has its own unique mechanics that prevent crossplay. However, both the Disney Villainous and the Marvel Villainous have their own expansions, and it’s is possible that Star Wars Villainous will also get its own expansion assuming that the game is a success.

Star Wars Villainous: Power of the Dark Side will be priced at $29.99 and will be released in August 2022 on major hobby stores and major retailers.
