Star Wars Galaxy of Adventures Producer Wants To Add Humor To Classic Canon

We finally saw a different version of the original Star Wars trilogy, thanks to the new animated shorts that premiered on YouTube. But how did Star Wars Galaxy of Adventures manage to take some liberties with the beloved classic without going overboard? Producer Josh Rimes says it has to do with "humor and levity."

Rimes recently spoke to StarWars.com about working on Galaxy of Adventures and making it interesting to the younger generation. The producer admitted they added some flair to key scenes from the original trilogy to make them more unforgettable.

"The idea of approaching moments with a sense of playfulness was important," Rimes says. "We didn't want to make one-to-one exact retellings of the moments a lot of us know and love. Through the storytelling, design style, and kinetic action, the team really heightened these familiar moments, making the battles big and vivid and exciting, and enhancing many of them with humor and levity."

There are certainly big changes in Galaxy of Adventures. For instance, Luke Skywalker's first encounter with a lightsaber is decidedly more dramatic and fun compared to the character's calculated interest in A New Hope. Needless to say, the animated shorts are a great way to introduce younger audiences to Star Wars.

"I hope they resonate with kids," Rimes says. "I hope that kids who know a little about Star Wars find them, and I hope that kids who know nothing about Star Wars find them, and it engages them and brings them into the world."

There is little doubt that even lifelong fans of the franchise will enjoy the animated shorts.

The first batch Star Wars Galaxy of Adventures shorts are currently available on the Star Wars Kids YouTube channel.
